Word generation

Hi everyone,

I remember some time ago Andrew Smith mentioning a Perl script he'd
written which, given a Latin input, produced the appropriate Brithenig
word. I'm now in a situation when I could do with something similar, not
just for Breathanach but also for the various Liotan languages. Can
anyone offer any help about what the best way to go about writing such a
program might be? I know C and C++, but I've only just begun Perl, so it
might me a good Perl exercise.

Part of the problem is that deriving Breathanach from Latin is harder
than deriving Brithenig, not least because of the increased number of
phonemes. As for Liotan, I'll have to contend with complicated changes
like PL _ceinheos_ -> Kadhrein _heins_, in which the various
sound-changes overlap and interact in ways which are rather hard to
program.

Anyway, any help will be much appreciated!

Regards,

Geoff
