Frank: dl = I can't remember what it's called, but it's a "d" and an "l"
articulated simultaneously

Ray: Been trying to make this sound! Is it a voiced lateral affricate?

Frank: I dunno <shrug>.

Padraic: Well you discovered it! I think I understand where you're going
with the description, though.

Frank: Sort of like a trilled "r", but only on tap. Sorta. I'll have to
find the paper where I wrote it down.

Ray: Ah - not a lateral affricate, then. It sounds more like the
intervocalic -t- in, e.g. 'water', 'letter' &c. in certain varieties of
American English.

Ray.
